why urban exploration?
Urban Exploration is not a term very widely known among people. Urban exploration in the simplest terms is going into abandoned buildings and exploring them. While exploring a building you can appreciate the history and architecture of a building.
Westborough Mental Hospital
This is a perfect example of a historical building that I have explored. Its close by and has a rich history. It was built in 1884 and was fully closed in 2010. It housed patients ranging from completely harmless to the criminally insane. In fact during the early 1950's the hospital was so understaffed that a few of the criminally insane would get away with killing other patients inside the hospital. Today parts of the hospital are in complete decay while others are being refurbished and used as office space. The dark, quiet tunnels and hallways of the hospital give an eerie and haunting feel to the building while Mother Nature reclaims the land and building as her own. Some say the Hospital is haunted by the patients who died inside the building, although I haven't experienced anything of the sort.
Lakeville Hospital
Visiting the Lakeville Hospital was very fun and exciting. The three buildings were all full of interesting history and areas to explore that no one would know about unless you had walked inside of them. Here are a few pictures to show you some of these interesting buildings.
This picture was from inside the main hospital, looking out onto the tuberculosis building (white and brick) and the apartments for long term staff (the tall brick building in the back)
This is a picture of the main Hospital building.
